NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) Employment and Training (NET) is a new enterprise designed to increase access to training and jobs for Indigenous people.
Being supported by Aboriginal mentors to complete training, get a job and maintain employment is one way to achieve independence and prosperity for Aboriginal people.
NET is an Aboriginal community-controlled entity incorporated in June 2019 as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee.
NET delivers Vocational Training and Employment Centre (VTEC) services that covers Sydney and the Illawarra. Over time NET will expand its service delivery to regional areas of NSW.
VTEC is comprised of an all Aboriginal team of Employment Specialists and Mentors to connect Indigenous job seekers to a guaranteed job. Our Specialists and Mentors will work closely with job seekers to overcome barriers to employment and provide a personalised service to build resilience and achieve successful employment.
Job seeker yarn ups are held across Sydney and Illawarra to bring job seekers together with our Specialists and Mentors to explore current employment opportunities and to cover topics such as resume writing, time management, interview skills and overcoming barriers to employment.
VTECs work with service providers to support job seekers to build vocational and non-vocational capabilities. This can include:
numeracy training
experience
Our team is also working closely with employers of all sizes across diverse industries to broker suitable jobs and create culturally safe work places for Indigenous employees.
